Worth, Texas, Picturing the Bible - The Earliest Christian Art, presented photos of catacombs in Rome dating back to the second century when Christians in Rome began acquiring property for use as cemeteries. The acquisition of the tombs allowed the Christians to decorate the walls of the tombs with stories of Jonah, Noah, and New Testament stories depicting the many miracles of The Good Shepherd, Jesus' ministry.More Early Christian Art was displayed: ~ Silver plates ~ Marble statues ~ Sarcophagi ~ Glass and gold medallions for tableware and lamps, pottery of all shapes engraved with biblical scenes ~ Gold and silver Jewelry, rings and pendants with carnelian and agate stones engraved with earliest used Christian symbols of Chi and Rho, boldly marked allegiance to the Christian movement.
